Producer Karan Johar of Dharma Productions, who is known for his grandeur sets, designer apparels, and super star cast is ready with a real drama, real people and real show in his latest production ‘Kapoor & Sons’. The film is written and directed by Shakun Batra and stars an ensemble cast including Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak and Rajat Kapoor.
The story of the film portrays the Kapoor brothers Rahul and Arjun who return to their home land Coonoor, a hill station in Tamil Nadu to visit their below par grandfather. With the reunion of Kapoor’s the family secrets come out and move the story further. The twist in the tale starts when the both young Kapoor lads fall for the same girl. How the situation gets untwine is what the film offers, coupled with terrific performances of one and all.
Talking about the acting, Fawad Khan plays the elder brother Rahul, a flourishing novelist with much aplomb and poise. His plane faced performance adds his natural side and makes him a real shimmer. Sidharth Malhotra on the other side plays his role as Arjun in a raw style and with flaws when compared to perfectionists Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak playing the on-screen parents. Actually, the imperfections make the audience feel more connected to the plot and that is the trick which really worked here.
Moreover, Alia Bhatt as charming Tia is caught by the eyes instantly. Rishi Kapoor as the witty grandfather role (his make-up has been the talk of the town since the film starts shooting) is both sweet and stoic from the first scene to the climax of the film.
Although the plot of the film is quite predictable, director Shakun Batra made the narrative very engaging. The tussles at the dinner table are so plausible that you feel a part of it. Adding to it, the one-to-one interaction between the two brothers showcases the human stance and senses in a perfect mix. The enmity, the intimacy and the envy between siblings is finely brought out.
Film’s music is composed by Amaal Mallik, Badshah, Arko Pravo Mukherjee and Tanishk Bagchi. The crazy party song “Kar Gayi Chull” stands on top position from the time of its release. Watch the FULL SONG Here:
