‘Fitoor’ Movie Review: Kashmir’s Beauty alongwith a Heartbreaking Love Story between Aditya Roy Kapoor and Katrina Kaif

‘Kai Po Che’ fame director Abhishek Kapoor comes out with a fresh Bollywood romantic drama film. The film is an adaptation of Charles Dicken’s classic novel ‘Great Expectations’. The film is shot in the heaven of Earth – Kashmir and features Aditya Roy Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Tabu in lead roles.
Although the portrayal of Kashmir’s scenic beauty has made the film overwhelmingly striking and beautiful, the story-line and other aspects falls short of gratifying the great expectations fans had from it.
The story of the film is the same old love story based on the theme of rich girl-poor boy love saga. This time when our poor Kashmiri lad Noor (Aditya Roy Kapoor) meets the rich Firdaus (Katrina Kaif), he instantly falls in love with her. Firdaus’ mother Begum Hazrat (Tabu) finds the infatuation in Noor’s eyes and pushes him to become worthy of Firdaus.
Meanwhile, after a mishap in the city, Firdaus is sent to London for studies and Noor gets a calling to the capital city Delhi to brush his skills as an artist. The heart-broken love story is praiseworthy and laudable in parts.
The lead star cast as Tabu and Aditya Roy Kapoor gives their level best, whereas, Katrina shows her best as a heart-breaker. Scenes with emotional facets are something she seldom appeals into and it should be taken raw and plane. Aditya, as Noor enthralls the audience and steals the show. The depth in his eyes makes him loud. Supporting stars Rahul Bhat as Bilal and Lara Dutta as Leena do fit in their respective roles as perfectly as they can. Ajay Devgn and Aditi Rao Hydari make sound impact with their cameos.
Cameraman Anay Goswamy’s magnificent work gives all the talking as he portrays the spectacular scenic beauty of Kashmir; truly a treat to watch. The valley is fascinating in fiery-red of the chinar leaves and then it is motionless white of snow. The angelic beauty does appeal the film and makes it a cut above.

All-in-all, ‘Fitoor’ has a story that loses its path in-between and tries to tie all the loose ends thereafter. What holds well is the beauty of Kashmir that makes it a wonderful watch.
