Aligarh (2016)

The story of the film is based on a real-life incident of Aligarh Muslim University professor Shriniwas Ramchandra Siras who was terminated from his services because he was gay. The mind boggling trailer of the film forces you to rethink about the article 377 and it’s worthiness in today’s time.
Margarita With A Straw (2014)
Margarita With A Straw is a Indian drama film featuring Kalki Koechlin in the lead role. The film is directed by Shonali Bose and portrays the struggle of a girl with cerebral palsy. Kalki plays the role with much ease and acted beautifully. The film also reflects the part of sexuality in a real and normal way. The film won many awards in various international film festivals like Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
I Am (2010)
Director Onir comes with an idea of four short films weaved in a one that makes the film I Am. It consists of real-life stories and named as “Omar”, “Afia”, “Abhimanyu” and “Megha”. Although, there are four stories, but the characters are interwoven to connect all of them into one. Whereas, “Abhimanyu” portrays the subject of child abuse, “Omar” is based on gay rights. The other two stories “Megha” and “Afia” depict the theme of Kashmiri Pandits and sperm donation respectively. The film stars a huge star cast including Rahul Bose, Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala, Nandita Das, Sanjay Suri, Anurag Kashyap and Purab Kohli.
Angry Indian Goddesses (2015)
A lot of male buddy Bollywood films like ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, and ‘Pyar Ka Punchnama’ made us laugh and cry in all these years. Moreover, with the release of ‘Angry Indian Goddesses’ the ad line ‘Why Should boys have all the fun’ has become true as the film is portraying seven Indian females on the big silver screen, partying, talking, laughing, crying, sharing and much more. The women centric drama film is directed by debutant Pan Nalin and has a lesbian relationship at its core.

The Journey (Sancharram) (2004)
Sancharram is a 2004 Malayalam film directed by Ligy J. Pullappally. The story of the film is based on a true story of two young lesbian lovers in the Indian state of Kerala. The film portrays the characters of Kiran (Suhasini V. Nair) and Deliah (Shruti Menon) in a very simple way without any complexity. Also the beauty of Kerala, especially the rural part takes us into the essence of love deeply.
Eastern Boys (2013)
Eastern Boys is a French film directed by Robin Campillo. The film depicts a layered love-story and is a great piece of cinematic experience. The story of the film portrays the illegal immigrants in Europe who survive through criminal activities. Amidst, there is a gay love story of a middle-aged man who develops a relationship with the young Marek, an illegal Eastern European.
Dog Days (2016)
Chinese film Dog Days is yet another of its type which looks at the world from an angle of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT). The film is directed by Jordan Schiele and showcases the more impacting issues of China, like scarcity and illicit adoptions.
Happy Together (1997)
Happy Together is a Hong Kong romantic film based on a gay relationship in modern society. The story of the film portrays the destructed lives of a gay couple who travel to Argentina trying to patch their dying relationship. The film is directed by Wong Kar Wai and has all the very things a movie-junkie desire – strong characters with a story filled with love and emotions.
The Wedding Banquet (1993)

Director Ang Lee comes with a Taiwanese-American film The Wedding Banquet, which is also the first of the three films that Ang Lee made featuring gay characters. The story of the film is based on a gay Taiwanese immigrant man who marries a Chinese woman to appease his parents and hide his sexuality.
