If you boggle your brain to recollect some
past Bollywood sports films, you will find a very few names that can allege to
give you an adrenaline rush into your blood. Shimit Amin’s ‘Chak De India’ and
Omung Kumar’s ‘Mary Kom’ are such Bollywood titles. This time Sudha Kongara has
come with an unusual sports drama film 'Saala Khadoos' featuring R. Madhavan in the leading
role.
The story of the film showcases the
frustrated Adi Tomar whose dream to win the boxing gold for the nation was let
down by his wily coach who spiked his boxing gloves during a key match. The
same Adi when noted a Chennai fisher-woman with the talent at par, his eyes started
wanting to make his dream come true through her.
The film is a powerful punch on the current
condition of India’s women boxers and throws light on a number of issues
related to. Short of sporting infrastructure and corruption in the team of selectors
who takes women athletes for granted are few of them.
Although the unusual story of the film goes
quite safely and as expected, the film keeps you hooked to your seats and high
in the energy-level. Madhavan’s soul-stirring work speaks itself both in terms
of physically and mentally. The role also defines one of the most challenging
of his career and he does make it real big. Debutante Ritika shows her raw side
and gives a natural performance.
All-in-all, the film is a good watch to keep
