Indian audience is no longer that old dhishum dhishum and hawa hawai type, rather viewer sensibilities seem to have quite
matured. With the coming age filmmakers and their products like ‘Dum Laga Ke
Haisha’, ‘Badlapur’ and ‘Masaan’, the films no longer need big budget and hit
stars. Instead it’s the story and approach that matters the most. Here is a
list of some quality movies that become sleeper hits of the year 2015:
Dum Laga Ke Haisha
Debutant director Sharat Katariya recreates
the era of 90’s with melody maestro Kumar Sanu’s hit music numbers. Ayushmann
Khurana and Bhumi Pednekar won the heart of millions with their stunning
performances. The film is remarkable in a number of ways – an era that has
past, an exceptional actress and the clashing husband-wife relationship, all
eventually lead to a supreme piece of art.
Badlapur
Badlapur is a crime thriller film directed by
Sriram Raghavan, starring Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles,
coupled with Huma Qureshi, Yami Gautam, Vinay Pathak, Divya Dutta and Radhika
Apte in other supporting roles. The spellbinding story line portrays a man’s
revenge after his family is killed during bank loot.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns
Anand L. Rai once again came with the sequel
of his 2011 hit film ‘Tanu Weds Manu’. Although the star cast is same in both
the films, the plot is very different – whereas, the prequel deals with
pre-marital problems, the sequel portrays conflicts and clashes in marital
life. Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan pair sizzled the silver screen with teaser
dialogues like “Adrak ho gaya hai yeh
aadmi, kahin se bhi badh raha hai!”
Piku
Although ‘Piku’ has the power pact super
stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan in its crew, it’s the filmmaker
Shoojit Sircar that moves you with his story. The film is based on the
constipation problems of a 70 year old Bhashkor Banerjee and his everyday
battle with his 30-year old daughter Piku (Deepika Padukone) who deals with it.
On the other hand, Irrfan in the role of cab service owner fills the gap with
his sharp dialogues. Hats off!!!
Masaan
Neeraj Ghaywan’s directorial debut film
‘Masaan’ is based on four lives commonly connected with the Ganges. The film is
a realistic depiction of our two-faced society and won many accolades in various
International film festivals including Cannes 2015. The star cast includes
Richa Chadda, Sanjay Mishra, Vicky Kaushal and Shweta Tripathi in this sleeper
hit film.
Talvar
Class director Meghna Gulzar’s thrilling film
‘Talvar’ is based on a real life double murder case held in Noida in the year
2008, where a school going girl and her family servant were found murdered and
the girl’s parents were convicted for the murders. Lead actor and the driving
force Irrfan Khan’s mind blowing act comes with many faces and make the
gripping film a must watch. The edge of the seat film portrays many conflicting
theories of the case along with the faults in the system.
