A lot of male buddy Bollywood films like ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, and ‘Pyar Ka Punchnama’ made us laugh and cry in all these years. Moreover, with the release of ‘Angry Indian Goddesses’ the ad line ‘Why Should boys have all the fun’ has become true as the film is portraying seven Indian females on the big silver screen, partying, talking, laughing, crying, sharing and much more.
The women centric drama film is directed by debutant Pan Nalin, starring Sandhya Mridul, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Sarah Jane Dias, Anushka Manchanda, Amrit Maghera, Rajshri Deshpande and Pavlin Gujral. The film was screened in the Toronto International Film Festival this year and came up second in the voting for People’s Choice Award.
The story of the film is based on an all female best-friends get-together in Goa for the wedding party of their photographer friend Freida (Sarah Jane Dias). The group includes corporate big shot Suranjana (Sandhya Mridul), housewife Pammi (Pavleen Gujral), activist Nargis (Tannishtha Chaterjee), musician Madhurita (Anushka Manchanda) and Frieda’s cousin and Bollywood contender Joanna (Amrit Maghera). Also Freida’s housemaid Lakshmi (Rajshri Deshpande) is an all-time attendant of the group.
Writer turned director, Pan Nalin has made the film in a free-flow style, capturing his characters naturally so that the audience can easily connect themselves and feel part of the film. The film has an endless chatter from the beginning and that is what happens when women meet anywhere in the world.
Sarah Jane Dias surprises in her sensitive role which is totally different from her debut role in 2011 film ‘Game’, where the sole focus was her beauty and good looks. Sandhya Mridul is really splendid in a mix of defenseless and gutsy, Pavleen and Rajshri, both are robust and strong. Anushka’s appealing vibes and senses stand her out as a singer and pity on barely visible Tannishtha whose scenes were cut by the censors.
After a ton of women issues like rape, suicide, divorce, dowry, childlessness and many more coming out every other day, eventually now isthe time to celebrate womanhood as the film is one which centers itself not on dismal elements but on pure entertainment with an ‘A’ certificate.
