which involves the growing of moustaches and beards during the month of
November. Well, now is the time to celebrate the most memorable movie
moustaches and Bollywood beards. Although most Bollywood movies present the
hero as clean shaved, there are films which have busted the stereotypes and
welcomed the character in its manlier manner. Let’s remember those characters
and celebrate the event of Movember:
Shahid Kapoor in Haider (2014)
Haider is a Bollywood crime drama film
directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, starring Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor and
Kay Kay Menon. Shahid played the protagonist Haider with great aplomb. The
actor has a grown beard in the role of a poet adding an intense and tough look
in the film.
Amitabh Bachchan in Shamitabh (2015)
Shamitabh is an Indian drama film directed by
R. Balki. The film stars, Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush and debutante Akshara
Haasan. Amitabh is seen in a new and raw look sporting a Garibaldistyle beard
and grey moustaches in the film. The veteran actor has redefined his style and
worked with international make up artists for this look.
Naseeruddin Shah in Dedh Ishqiya (2014)
Dedh Ishqiya is a Bollywood black comedy film
directed by Abhishek Chaubey. The star cast of the film includes Naseeruddin

Imtiaz Ali. The film stars Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt in main roles. Randeep

Amol Palekar in Gol Maal (1979)
Gol Maal is a Bollywood comedy film directed
by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, starring Amol Palekar, Utpal Dutt and Bindiya Goswami.
The film portrays Amol Palekar carrying a thin moustache to look different from
his role double. There is also a dialogue statement showing the importance of
moustache for a man – “A moustache is the mirror of the human soul and mind.”
Mukri as Nathulal in Sharaabi (1984)
Sharaabi is a Bollywood drama film directed
by Prakash Mehra. The star cast of the film includes Amitabh Bachchaan and Jaya
Prada in lead roles, coupled with Pran and Om Prakash in supporting roles. The
film has a very popular dialogue based on a character Nathulal’s moustache –
“Muche ho to Nathulal jaisi warna na ho…”
